The new Nokia smartphone N90 is the recent discovery
of the Nokia production. The N90 gives the first
impression of sophistication.The handset allows the user to
earn a status due to its outstanding looks. The Nokia N90
consists of a flap. Every part of the phone is made with a lot
of attention on style. Be it the keypad, display, camera, flap
and so on, no doubt the piece looks extremely stylish. The N90
is not a very large handset but it is a bit heavy. The keypad
is also situated in a compact way that it does not allow the
user to strain his fingers. Also with five-way navigation
key, two soft keys, application key, edit and clear key,
send and end keys as well as additional soft keys for the joystick,
the usage becomes much more interesting.
The
Nokia N90 weighs 6.1 ounces thereby measuring 4.41
x 2.0 x 0.94 inches. It provides an external display upto
65,536 colors with 128 x 128 pixels. Also contains an
Internal antenna. The handset operates with Triband GSM/EGPRS
900/1800/1900 MHz. It connects with USB 2.0 full speed
via Pop-Port interface, WAP 2.0 XHTML/HTML multimode
browser. Also Nokia PC suite with USB and Bluetooth wireless
technology.
Local synchronization of contacts and calendar to a
compatible PC using compatible connection is possible. Users
can send and receive images, video clips, graphics and business
cards through Bluetooth wireless technology, remote
over-the-air synchronization, over-the-air download of Java
based applications and games, The N90 can upload files
over HTTP using standard HTML forms, Improved web compatibility
with support for HTML including support for elements such
as image maps, background images and frames, support for a
subset of Java Script that includes the most commonly used
functions found on the net, small screen rendering option
including a faster page up/down scrolling function. All the
movies stored can be viewed on the Full screen mode.
For all those who have difficulty in sending huge files,
there is a download progress bar, The N90 supports
3GPP video streaming, OMA DRM 1.0 having forward lock
for content protection, combined delivery, seperate delivery
and superdistribution, Mobile Wallet for the convenient
online use and storage of passwords and members and Offline
mode for using imaging and productivity features in areas
wherein radios should be switched off.
The Nokia N90 handset is bundled with
an Integrated handsfree speaker, speed dialing and
automatic redial, advanced contacts database with support
for multiple phone and email details each entry, contains
thumbnail pictures and groups, stores the list of dialed,
received, amd missed calls, automatic handset that works only
with compatible headset or car-kit and conference.
The user can send MMS (Muti-media messages) i.e there
is instant messaging, predictive text input. N90 can
also combine images, video text, audio clip and send them
as MMS to compatible phone or PC, The handset automatically
resizes the megapixel images to fit MMS. The maximum attachment
size is 300 KB though it depends upon the network.
Apart from this text messaging supports concetenated SMS,
picture messaging and distribution lists.
The
Nokia N90 has a 2 megapixel camera (1600 x 1200
pixels) with autofocus 20x digital zoom with an Integrated
flash operating range upto 1.5 m, there are camera
scene settings such as Scenery, portrait, night and sports
landscape. The N90 is built up with a dedicated key
for image capture and video record.The 2 megapixel camera
with autofocus 20x digital zoom, can be adjusted accordingly
with brightness, image quality, self-timer, white balance
settings and color tones. Video can be shared with one-way
live or with video clip, the user can capture video in MP4
format(MPEG-4 video, AAC-LC audio), CIF resolution(352 x 288
pixels), Movie director for automated video production,
Video and still image directors.
The N90 is enabled to transfer photos directly to
compatible printer via Bluetooth wireless technology,
Multimedia card(MMC) or to PictBridge printer via USB
connectivity cable. The Built-in application is quick and
easy to use and there is no installation.
The main display has a 2.1 inch active matrix display
with a support of 262,144 colors(352x416 pixels). There
is automatic brightness control. On the other hand the mini
display has an active matrix 65,536 colors(128x128 pixels).
For organization the user enjoys advanced Series 60 PIM
features including calendar, contacts, to-do list and
PIM printing.
The Nokia N90 has upto 27 MB of internal dynamic
memory for contacts, text messages, MMS, ring tones, images,
video clips, calendar notes and applications, also provides
expandable memory with 64 MB reduced size dual voltage
(1.8/3v) multimedia memory card, Hot swap slot for easy
MMC insertion and removal.
The
Nokia N90 facilitates to upload image and video clip to
the web, Real media player, download and play multimedia
files, stream media files from compatible media portals, full
screen video playback on the phone to view downloaded, streamed
or recorded video clips in bigger size. The played formats
are (decoding) MP3, AAC, Real audio,WAV, Nokia ringtones,
AMR, AMR-WB, AMR-NB, AU,MIDI, H.263, JPEG, JPEG 2000, EXIF
2.2, GIF 87/89, PNG, BMP (W-BMP), MBM and MPEG-4.
The N90 claims talktime up to 3 hrs whereas
its standby-time is 12 days. The battery life is comparatively
short. However, the idea of its design is somewhat derived
from Nokia 6260. Also it weighs on the heavier side
as mentioned in the beginning. A very unique advantage is
that the user can read even in sunlight i.e the screen
does not look dim in the sun unlike other handsets. The
advantages overpower the drawbacks though. It does not give
any mechanical problem fortunately.
Thus, Nokia N90 is an irresistable phone for those who really
want some style.
