The
Nokia 7710 is a handset having a wide screen which
at first sight gives an impression of versatility. It
is designed in a sleek, slim and simple manner, yet it looks
attractive. The Nokia 7710 shares its function with the
communicators- 9500 and 9300, but differently. The very
first impression that hits upon the mind of the user whilst
using the handset is the spacious keypad and the wide
screen.
It weighs 189g thereby measuring 142.5cc, 128
x 69.5 x 19mm. It operates with Tri-Band GSM 900/1800/1900
with automatic switching between the bands, like Nokia
3230. The handset is made with five-way scroll key(up,
down, left, right and select). The physical keys apart from
the scroll keys enable functions like Call, End, Zoom, Desk,
Menu, Voice and Power. All these prove that the keypad is
well situated and is spacious unlike the keypads in other
handsets of Nokia. With reference to display and user
interface, it includes a high-resolution LCD display,
a large touch screen, as mentioned before, with a pen
input, partial mode display with 640 x 65 pixels for
power saving, 640 x 320 pixel display with 65,536 colors,
brightness and contrast which is adjustable, on-screen
keyboard and virtual dial pad. The display seems to be
lovely from outside but the words written within seemed to
be very blured.
It is connectable to the internet with EGPRS or
HSCSD. The internet browser supports HTML/ XHTML as well
as Macromedia Flash 6 and SMS tags. The Nokia 7710
is supportive of email (SMTP, POP3, IMAP4). The user is allowed
to download plugins for mobile browsing. There is an OMA
DRM- forward lock for content protection. However, these
services can do only with network support.
With respect to audio/visual department, the camera
consists of 1.3 Megapixel with a resolution of 1152
x 864 and 2x digital zoom. The images are very clear
and perhaps satisfactory for the user. It has QCIF

the images to support JPEG, GIF, WBMP, BMP, MBM, PNG,
TIFF/F and animated GIF formats. There is provision

with favourite radio stations, to find out what song is playing,
who is the singer and so on...

for contacts, messages, ring tones, video clips, images, PIM
and applications. Also 128 MB MMC which comes bundled
up with the sales package. The device supports up to

ringing tones available with Nokia 7710. The
handset allows wireless connectivity with Pop-Port interface.
The phone can be connected without wire to a compatible phone
or a compatible PC. The bluetooth technology is included
for data and audio connections. The user may enjoy remote
OTA synchronization with SyncML. Also available, is

images, audio and video. It supports the 3GPP SMIL
profile that enables the user to send short presentations
through MMS. With regard to games for games-crazy youngsters,
full hand casino is provided along with the MMC card.
Apart from this Slurp and Lemonade are those which need application.
For transfer of data GPRS and EDGE(multislot
class 10 (4+2,max 5) for wider up or download bandwidth, HSCSD
i.e high speed circuit-switched data with TCP/IP.
The
keypad is made in such a way that there is easy dialling with
the touch screen interface. The database provides advanced
contacts simultaneously supporting multiple phone and email
details each entry. It contains call register like any other
caller identification activated Nokia handset, has
automatic redial, voice dialing. Similar to other simple handsets
introduced by Nokia previously it has call waiting,
call hold and call divert. There is automatic and manual selection.
The user can enjoy using the images with caller identification.
Also includes conference facility.
Like any other new hansets discovered by Nokia,
7710 also faces problems of synchronization. It also faces
inability to copy or paste the text. The email does
not support the IMAP supscription. There are limited MP3
playbacks. The email support is very limited which leads
to disappointment.
It takes quite a long time for applications to open.
The battery life is too short. It was observed that
a mere 2 and half hours of intensive calling, browsing
and performing other tasks led the battery charge to Nil,
where as Nokia claims the battery life to be up to
12 hours. Moreover, it was also observed from sources that
reducing the brightness of the display from 100% to 50%
increases the battery life by as much as up to 15-20%.
Also, we thought had, The 7710 needs to be taken care
of like a Baby, due to its delicate touch screen Interface.
The 7710 doesnt seem to very expensive although
it has almost all important facilities. So, Nokia's 7710
is a compact handset with wide screen experience. Also having
revolutionary design smart people would like to go with 7710.
It suits best for corporate professionals.
