6630 is designed in a pot-like manner from the lower side.
The display is bright enough to satisfy the user. Moreover,
it is a display with automatic brightness adjustment.
It can be termed as the first 3G smartphone ever. It
has a very compact body and is nevertheless too small or too
large. It proves to be portable for the users.
The Nokia 6630 provides broadband speed with
WCDMA and EDGE. It operates with dual mode WCDMA/GSM and Tri-Band
GSM coverage on up to five continents(GSM900/1800/1900
and WCDMA 2100 NETWORKS). There is automatic switching
between the bands and modes as well.
The handset weighs 127g and measures 110mm
x 60mm x 21mm.It consists of a bright active matrix color
display. There is automatic backlight adjustment. The display
has 65,536 colors plus 176 x 208 pixel resolution
with Series 60 platform. The User Interface, is available
with selectable themes. The phone provides five-way navigational
key thereby allowing the user to have seven personalizable
shortcuts to applications in idle mode.
The Nokia 6630 has an irresistable 1.3 megapixel
camera sensor, effective resolution 1.23 megapixels
for image capture wherein the image size is 1280 x 960
pixels. Also provided with it a smooth 6x digital zoom.
The picture mode with standard and sequential mode(up to 6
images captured at short time intervals) is also included.
The displayed formats (encoding) bundled up along with it
are JPEG, GIF87a/89a, EXIF, WBMP, BMP, MBM, PNG.
For
the provision of video recording, the handset contains resolution
of 174 x 144 pixels or 128 x 96 pixels i.e QCIF
or sub QCIF. It records from 30 seconds upto one hour per
clip, smooth 6x digital zoom with 3GPP video streaming. The
record formats are 3gp file format, H.263 video and
AMR radio. The phone like some of the other handsets
also facilitates the Real player. It enables the user
to download and play multimedia files (video as well
as music), to stream media files from compatible media portals,
to enjoy full screen video playback on the phone to view downloaded,
streamed or recorded video clips in bigger size. The played
formats (decoding) thereby are 3gp and mp4 file
formats, MPEG-4 video, H.263 video and AMR audio, Real
media(real audio and real video), MP3 and AAC.
There is an inclusion of 10MB internal dynamic memory
for contacts, text messages, multimedia messages, ringing
tones, images, video clips, calendar notes, to-do list and
various other applications. The expandable memory it has is
64 MB Reduced size Dual Voltage(1.8/3v). There is a hot
swap slot for easy MMC card insertion and removal.
In order to message, the handset enables the user to
MMS with combined message, video clip and text and send
the MMS to a compatible phone or PC. There is automatic
resizing of the megapixel image to fit MMS. The user can
access email accounts whetherwork or personal with support
of SMTP, POP3 and IMAP4 protocols. The handset supports text
messages, picture messages as well as distribution lists.
There
is Bluetooth wireless technology available for connectivity.
Apart from this, Headset profile(HS), handsfree profile(HF)
and Basic Imaging Profile(BIP) are also available. The Nokia
6630 also facilitates USB 2.0 full speed via Pop-Port
interface. Also Local synchronization of contacts and
calendar to a compatible PC using compatible Nokia PC suite.
The additional Bluetooth profiles along with Bluetooth
connectivity are Basic printing profile(BPP) using Image print
or Info print applications and Human interface device profile(HID)
using Wireless Keyboard application.
With reference to browsing, WAP 2.0 XHTML/HTML multimode
browser is bundled up. The 6630 helps with Improved
web compatibility with support for HTML 4.01, including support
for elements such as image maps, background images and
frames. It provides support for a subset of Java Script
1.5 which includes the commonly used functions on the
internet. The user enjoys filing upload over HTTP using
standard HTML forms. To top it all, it also includes
OMA DRM 1.0 including forward lock for content protection.
The facility of call management remains the
same in most of the handsets of Nokia. Likewise it
is similar in 6630 having advanced contacts database
with support for numerous phone and email details each entry
thereby supporting thumbnail picture and groups. It
stores a list of the missed calls, received calls, dialed
calls. There is automatic redialing as well as automatic
answer. Also provides the function of conference calls.
The piece supports Java application as mentioned
earlier-downloadable Java MIDP2.0, CLDC1.1 applications and
3D API (JSR-184). The battery life is obviously not guaranteed.
But tests revealed 5 days of standy time and talk time
in excess of 3 hours. Apart from a few petty drawbacks
the Nokia 6630 suits best for all categories whether
office-goers or youngsters.
